Overview:
The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment used in our recycling operation. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience working with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electronic diagnostics. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and other components of heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical problems, ensuring minimal downtime for equipment.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Parts & Inventory: Assist in ordering and managing parts inventory, ensuring necessary parts are available for repairs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the operations team to prioritize repairs and maintenance, ensuring the efficient operation of all equipment.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably in a metal recycling or heavy equipment environment.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in diesel mechanics is preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in diesel engine repair, hydraulics, electronic diagnostics, and welding.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and stand for extended periods.
- Other: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus!
