Overview:
The Director of Transportation will oversee the entire trucking and logistics operations for a privately- held metal recycling company in the South. This role involves leading the development, implementation, and management of transportation strategies to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations. The Director of Transportation will report directly to the Vice President and collaborate closely with the Facility Manager to support operational needs.
Responsibilities:
- Fleet Management: Oversee the fleet of vehicles, including scheduling regular maintenance and repairs to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement operational strategies to achieve company goals in trucking, logistics, and customer service.
- Cost Analysis: Monitor and analyze transportation costs, identifying opportunities for savings and efficiency improvements.
- Driver Management: Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of drivers, ensuring they meet company standards.
- Route and Schedule Coordination: Plan and coordinate driver routes and schedules to optimize delivery times and reduce operational costs.
- Logistics and Customer Service Leadership: Take full responsibility for the management of all trucking, logistics, and customer service activities.
- Partner Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with trucking partners, monitor their performance, negotiate rates, and develop solutions to enhance efficiency.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay informed about trends in the transportation industry and keep up-to-date with transportation regulations to ensure compliance.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned by the Vice President.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in transportation, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience in the transportation industry may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation management in the metals recycling industry.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong leadership and organizational skills.
