Overview:
Privately-held Metals Recycling Company seeks a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of daily operations at their Northeastern facility. The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the entire scrap processing workflow, from material intake to shipment, ensuring that all operations are efficient, safe, and aligned with company goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scrap metal processing, team leadership, and a commitment to operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily operations of the facility – incoming/outgoing shipments, material processing – shredding, sorting, shearing, baling. Ensure that production goals are met while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operations staff. Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Continuously assess and improve operational processes to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and improve throughput while ensuring high-quality material output.
- Oversee safety protocols and ensure that all operations comply with company policies, local, state, and federal regulations.
- Monitor inventory levels and manage the flow of materials through the facility. Work closely with suppliers and customers to ensure timely receipt and delivery of scrap materials.
- Schedule and oversee routine maintenance of all processing equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and customers to ensure a steady supply of material and timely fulfillment of orders.
- Track and report on key operational metrics, including production volumes, downtime, and efficiency. Use data to drive decisions and implement process improvements.
- Assist in the preparation and management of the facility’s operating budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness while meeting production targets.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of metal recycling industry experience in operations management
- Strong knowledge of scrap processing operations, processing equipment (baler, shear, shredder) and safety protocols.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team, with a focus on improving productivity and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze data and implement practical solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
