Overview:
The Plant Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the plant, which processes over 5 million pounds of nonferrous scrap metal each month. This role involves overseeing all aspects of production, quality control, safety, maintenance, inventory, staffing, and compliance. The Plant Manager will lead a diverse team of operators, supervisors, and support staff while ensuring the plant meets both production goals and environmental standards.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of daily plant operations, ensuring efficient and effective processing of nonferrous metals.
- Manage production schedules to meet monthly targets.
- Continuously monitor plant performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure the proper functioning of processing equipment, machinery, and technology.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, operators, and support staff.
- Maintain a high-performance culture that fosters accountability, teamwork, and employee engagement.
- Provide training to ensure all team members are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform their roles safely and efficiently.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and support career development within the team.
- Champion a culture of safety by enforcing strict adherence to all safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations related to scrap metal processing and waste disposal.
- Monitor and report on safety performance, conducting investigations of any incidents and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Manage safety audits and prepare for external regulatory inspections.
- Oversee the implementation of quality control measures to ensure high standards for metal recovery, product purity, and material integrity.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall plant performance.
- Manage inventory levels of raw scrap metal, finished products, and consumables to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely procurement of necessary materials, parts, and equipment.
- Optimize inventory management processes to minimize waste and ensure efficient material handling.
- Develop and manage the plant’s operational budget, tracking costs and identifying areas for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
- Analyze production data to monitor cost efficiency, identify inefficiencies, and recommend improvements.
- Implement strategies to reduce scrap rates and energy consumption.
- Work closely with the sales and logistics teams to ensure the timely delivery of processed metals to customers.
- Maintain relationships with key clients and stakeholders to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Act as the main point of contact for all operational inquiries, ensuring clear and consistent communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
- 7+ years management experience in nonferrous metal recycling operations
- Knowledgeable in nonferrous materials, grading, and pricing
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse workforce.
- Expertise in plant operations, nonferrous scrap metal processing, and quality control techniques.
- Deep understanding of safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control.
- Proficiency in using plant management software, ERP systems, and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
