Overview:
Established Metal Recycling Company seeks a Scale Buyer to purchase scrap metal materials at the scale from customers, weighing and grading metals, and ensuring accurate transactions. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, as well as knowledge of different types of metals and their value. This role involves working closely with customers and vendors to build relationships that encourage repeat business, while upholding the company’s standards for quality and customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist customers as they arrive at the scale
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, providing a friendly and professional experience
- Educate customers on acceptable materials, pricing structures, and recycling processes
- Weigh and grade various ferrous and nonferrous metals to determine quality and value
- Utilize the company’s weighing systems to accurately weigh customer materials
- Identify and inspect metal types, ensuring they meet company specifications
- Negotiate fair and competitive prices with customers while adhering to company pricing guidelines
- Accurately document and record all transactions, including weight, grade, and price
- Process payments to customers and ensure accuracy in transaction records
Requirements:
- 2+ Years Metals Recycling Industry Experience
- Knowledge of ferrous and nonferrous metals, including identification and grading
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, ensuring a positive experience
- Must be meticulous in weighing, grading, and recording information accurately
- Ability to perform simple calculations to determine weights and values
- Ability to make quick decisions and resolve disputes, if necessary, in a fair manner
- Basic computer skills to enter transaction data and manage inventory records
- Ability to use handheld metal testing devices (e.g., XRF analyzers) and other tools to assess material quality
