Overview:
An established Metals Recycling Company seeks a Senior Buyer to join the team. The Sr Buyer is responsible for purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials from retail customers and dealers, primarily within a designated region in the Midwest. This role involves maintaining customer relationships, negotiating bids, and ensuring efficient material flow between facilities, customers, and end users.
Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase scrap materials through site visits and phone outreach, including extended travel within the region.
- Develop and maintain customer lists with action plans for outreach and growth.
- Provide strategic plans for material purchase expansion in assigned regions.
- Quote pricing for new materials based on customer requirements and follow up on submissions.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Submit weekly reports on customer activities, quotes, and orders.
- Coordinate purchases with Facility Managers and Transportation for efficient material flow.
- Prepare and submit price quotations for non-standard items.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience in purchasing/sale of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials
- Knowledgeable in different types, grades, and specifications of scrap metal materials.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail in managing complex procurement projects and contracts.
- Understanding of logistics, transportation, and inventory management principles applicable to metal materials and supplies.
- Clean driving record
