Overview:
A growing and well-established metals recycling organization is seeking a Senior Buyer to support the continued expansion of its commercial operations. This position will be responsible for procuring non-ferrous scrap metal from industrial generators, manufacturers, dealers, demolition contractors, and other suppliers throughout a designated territory.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of non-ferrous markets, proven experience developing supplier relationships, and the ability to identify and capitalize on purchasing opportunities while maintaining targeted margins.
Key Responsibilities:
- Purchase non-ferrous scrap metals from industrial, manufacturing, dealer, and commercial accounts.
- Develop new supplier relationships while maintaining and growing existing accounts.
- Conduct regular customer visits to generate new business opportunities and increase inbound volume.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and purchasing agreements based on market conditions and company objectives.
- Evaluate material quality, grades, specifications, and marketability.
- Monitor commodity markets and industry trends to support purchasing decisions.
- Coordinate with operations, logistics, and management teams to ensure efficient material flow.
- Maintain accurate records of purchasing activity, supplier communications, and market intelligence.
- Work closely with leadership to develop and execute territory growth strategies.
- Represent the company professionally at customer locations, industry events, and networking opportunities.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience purchasing non-ferrous scrap metals, recyclable commodities, or related raw materials.
- Strong knowledge of non-ferrous grades including copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, nickel-bearing alloys, and other specialty metals.
- Established relationships within the recycling, manufacturing, foundry, or industrial sectors are highly desirable.
- Proven ability to source new business and grow supplier networks.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to analyze market conditions and make sound purchasing decisions.
- Self-motivated with a results-driven approach to sales and procurement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and purchasing or inventory management systems.
- Willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory.
