Overview:
A well-established Metals Recycling Company seeks an experienced Regional Director to lead the operations of multiple facilities within a defined region. This executive will oversee day-to-day operations, commercial performance, safety culture, processing efficiency, cost control, and team leadership across ferrous and non-ferrous operations. The Regional Director ensures each site meets production, quality, service, and profitability targets while upholding Alter’s operational and environmental standards.
Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Provide direct leadership to Site Managers, Facility Managers, and operational teams across multiple processing locations.
- Drive daily and weekly operational performance – inbound/outbound volumes, margins, uptime, maintenance, and material recovery.
- Ensure efficiency of shredders, shears, balers, scales, non-ferrous systems, and logistics assets.
- Identify process bottlenecks, implement continuous-improvement initiatives, and drive standardization across the region.
Safety, Compliance & Environmental
- Champion a strong safety culture through active leadership, accountability, and employee engagement.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, state and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Oversee environmental controls, stormwater systems, air-quality equipment, and routine audits.
- Lead corrective-action plans and manage risk to maintain a zero-incident mindset.
Commercial & Customer Engagement
- Partner with commercial teams to support regional purchasing and sales strategies.
- Assist in evaluating new business opportunities, pricing strategies, and competitive positioning.
- Ensure exceptional customer service and responsiveness to drive repeat business.
Financial & P&L Accountability
- Own full P&L responsibility for the region, including budgeting, forecasting, and KPI management.
- Monitor margin performance, operating costs, labor optimization, and equipment efficiency.
- Approve capital expenditures and lead ROI analysis on upgrades, maintenance, and new equipment.
- Identify underperforming assets and implement turnaround plans as needed.
People Leadership
- Recruit, coach, and develop managers and frontline supervisors with an emphasis on leadership capability and accountability.
- Drive a culture of communication, performance, and continuous development.
- Ensure staffing levels, training, and succession planning meet operational needs.
- Lead conflict resolution, workforce planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
Strategic Initiatives
- Support companywide initiatives including digital tools, ESG, fleet optimization, and asset management.
- Represent the region’s operational voice in corporate planning and cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in metals recycling industry.
- Multi-site operational leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous processing, equipment, quality standards, and material flow.
- Proven safety leadership with a track record of reducing incidents and driving compliance.
- Strong business acumen with P&L ownership, budgeting, and KPI-driven decision making.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and change-management skills.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the region.
