Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Technical Services / Quality Control Manager to lead all technical, quality, and materials functions across our Ready Mix operations. This role oversees mix design development, product quality, testing procedures, and technical support for 7+ Ready Mix plants. The Director ensures consistent, high-quality concrete production and serves as the company’s primary technical resource for customers, operations, and leadership.
This position reports directly to the owner and plays a key role in maintaining product performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Quality Control and Technical Services department across all Ready Mix locations.
- Develop, review, and optimize concrete mix designs to meet performance, cost, and specification requirements.
- Oversee all field and laboratory testing, including fresh and hardened concrete testing, materials testing, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with ASTM, ACI, DOT, and project specific standards.
- Manage QC technicians, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance oversight.
- Conduct plant audits, batch accuracy checks, and quality performance reviews.
- Provide technical support to plant managers, dispatch, drivers, and customers.
- Investigate product performance issues, customer complaints, and jobsite challenges; implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation, test records, and certification requirements.
- Collaborate with Operations and Fleet teams to ensure equipment calibration, material consistency, and production reliability.
- Represent the company in technical meetings, pre-construction conferences, and customer consultations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in production quality, materials performance, and operational efficiency.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in Ready Mix concrete quality control, technical services, or materials engineering.
- Strong understanding of concrete technology, mix design, aggregates, admixtures, and testing procedures.
- Familiarity with ASTM, ACI, and DOT standards and certifications (ACI Level I/II, DOT certifications, etc.).
- Proven leadership experience managing QC teams and multi-plant operations.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel regularly between plant and jobsite locations.
