Overview:
The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Division Manager drives maintenance strategy, supports operations, and leads teams that keep our business moving.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all maintenance and repair activities for plant equipment
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to reduce downtime
- Establish and standardize maintenance procedures and best practices across all sites
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, MSHA (where applicable), EPA, and all regulatory requirements
- Lead safety initiatives, inspections, audits, and root-cause investigations
- Ensure accurate documentation for inspections, audits, and reporting
- Lead, mentor, and develop maintenance managers, supervisors, and technicians
- Drive performance, accountability, and continuous improvement across multiple locations
- Support workforce planning, coaching, and succession development
- Oversee maintenance budgets, forecasting, and capital planning
- Optimize labor, parts inventory, rebuild strategies, and vendor usage
- Negotiate and manage vendor and service contracts
- Support shutdowns, rebuilds, and major repair planning
- Respond to critical equipment issues to minimize downtime
- Track and analyze key metrics such as downtime, availability, and repair costs
- Utilize CMMS systems to identify trends and improve equipment reliability
- Implement data-driven process improvements
- Manage maintenance shops, yards, tooling, and support facilities
- Evaluate and implement new maintenance technologies and strategies
- Improve equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency
- Benchmark performance against industry standards
Requirements:
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in heavy equipment
- Strong knowledge of loaders, excavators, dozers, haul trucks, crushers, and plant equipment
- Proven experience managing budgets, rebuild programs, and vendor relationships
- Strong understanding of OSHA, MSHA, and environmental compliance standards
- Experience with CMMS and equipment management systems
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Ability to travel regularly (approximately 45–65%)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
