Overview:
A growing, privately held metals recycling company is seeking a Shredder Supervisor to oversee daily shredding operations at a high-volume processing facility. This role is responsible for leading shredder crew performance, maximizing uptime, and ensuring safe, efficient production in a fast-paced yard environment.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day shredder operations, including pre-shred and primary shredder systems
- Supervise and lead shredder crew, including operators, laborers, and support staff
- Monitor throughput, downtime, and production efficiency; adjust operations as needed to meet targets
- Coordinate closely with maintenance to schedule repairs, preventative maintenance, and minimize unplanned downtime
- Ensure proper material flow from inbound feedstock through downstream separation and outbound product streams
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain compliance with all company and regulatory standards
- Train and develop team members on equipment operation, safety procedures, and best practices
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce wear/tear, and optimize shredder performance
- Maintain production reports, shift logs, and operational metrics
Requirements:
- 3+ years metals recycling shredder operations experience
- Hands-on experience with shredder systems (hammermill, pre-shredder, or similar equipment)
- Strong understanding of material flow, shredder feedstock, and downstream separation processes
- Proven leadership experience supervising crews in a production-driven environment
- Mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of heavy equipment, hydraulics, and wear components
- Ability to troubleshoot operational issues and make real-time decisions on the floor
