Overview:
The National Transportation Safety Leader provides leadership in transportation safety by developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs. This role ensures full compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), Health and Safety Standards (HSS), and corporate safety requirements while promoting a proactive safety culture that supports operational efficiency and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for national transportation safety initiatives across all operating regions.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety programs, policies, and procedures aligned with DOT, HSS, and corporate standards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company safety regulations and requirements.
- Monitor safety performance metrics, conduct trend analysis, and drive corrective actions to reduce incidents and improve outcomes.
- Lead incident investigation processes, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action planning.
- Partner with operations leadership to embed safety practices into daily transportation activities.
- Foster a strong, organization-wide safety culture emphasizing accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Deliver safety training, communication programs, and leadership guidance to reinforce safe operating behaviors.
- Conduct audits and field assessments to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to balance safety objectives with operational efficiency and customer service excellence.
- Stay current with regulatory changes and industry best practices, ensuring organizational readiness and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Transportation, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Extensive experience in transportation safety leadership, ideally in a multi-site or national role.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and occupational safety standards.
- Proven experience developing and managing enterprise safety programs.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and incident investigation skills.
