A well-established, multi-site scrap metal recycling company is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to support the leadership and daily operations of a large full-service processing facility in the Midwest. This role offers strong long-term growth potential and the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership in a high-volume operation.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience within ferrous and non-ferrous scrap recycling operations, along with a strong operational mindset, leadership ability, and a commitment to safety, production, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Support the General Manager in overseeing daily yard, processing, and operational activities
- Assist with managing production flow, equipment utilization, transportation coordination, and employee productivity
- Help lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
- Supervise and support operations personnel across multiple departments
- Monitor operational performance metrics and identify areas for improvement
- Coordinate maintenance priorities and minimize equipment downtime
- Assist with inventory management, inbound/outbound material flow, and customer service issues
- Support hiring, training, employee development, and team leadership initiatives
- Work closely with commercial, scale, dispatch, and yard teams to ensure efficient operations
- Serve as a key operational leader and help drive future growth initiatives
Qualifications:
- 7+ years experience within the scrap metal recycling industry
- Strong understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous processing operations
- Leadership experience within a high-volume industrial environment
- Experience managing personnel, production, safety, and operational performance
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced operational environment
