Overview:
A growing metals recycling operation is seeking a Shredder Operations Manager to lead shredder production and maintenance activities. This role is responsible for safe, reliable, and efficient shredder and downstream operations, with equal accountability for production performance, equipment reliability, and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of a hammermill shredder system & downstream separation processes
- Manage production scheduling, throughput & material flow (inbound scrap to finished products)
- Lead, coach & develop a team of operators, maintenance personnel & yard staff
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental & regulatory requirements
- Monitor & improve key performance metrics (uptime, yield, recovery rates, cost per ton)
- Coordinate closely with maintenance to minimize downtime & optimize equipment performance
- Manage inventory of shredder feedstock & outbound products (ferrous, non-ferrous, residue)
- Partner with commercial team on buying strategies & material mix optimization
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations, safety & cost control
Qualifications:
- 5+ years metals recycling industry shredder operations experience
- Prior experience managing or supervising a shredder operation (hammermill preferred)
- Strong understanding of downstream systems
- Proven leadership experience managing production teams
- Working knowledge of equipment maintenance practices & preventative maintenance programs
- Familiarity with safety standards (OSHA) & environmental compliance
- Ability to analyze production data & drive operational improvements
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Drake, Newell, Lindemann, Wendt or similar shredder systems
- Experience scaling or optimizing throughput in a mid-size shredder environment
