Overview:
An established metals recycling operation is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance activities across a busy scrap processing facility. This position will be responsible for overseeing preventative maintenance programs, equipment reliability, repair scheduling, and mechanic supervision while maintaining a hands-on presence in daily operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing maintenance teams in a heavy industrial, recycling, manufacturing, mining, aggregates, or related environment and possess strong troubleshooting and leadership abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team of maintenance technicians and mechanics (5+).
- Schedule, coordinate, and oversee maintenance and repair activities for:
o Mobile equipment
o Heavy trucks and trailers
o Material handling equipment
o Processing plant equipment
o Facility infrastructure - Assist with troubleshooting and repairs as needed to support daily operations.
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage parts inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships to ensure timely availability of critical components.
- Negotiate with suppliers and outside service providers to control maintenance costs and improve service levels.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment histories.
- Coordinate emergency repairs and prioritize maintenance activities to minimize operational downtime.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience in the metals recycling industry.
- Experience supervising mechanics and maintenance personnel.
- Strong knowledge of diesel equipment, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, conveyors, material handling equipment, and industrial processing equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and operational issues.
- Experience with preventative maintenance systems and maintenance planning.
- Strong inventory management, purchasing, and vendor management experience.
- Budgeting and cost-control experience preferred.
- Hands-on leadership style with a willingness to assist in the field when needed.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
