Overview:
A well-established metals recycling and processing organization is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead purchasing, sales, customer development, and strategic commercial initiatives across all operations.
This individual will play a key role in driving revenue growth, expanding industrial and manufacturing relationships, strengthening supplier partnerships, and maximizing profitability across ferrous and nonferrous commodity streams. The position will work closely with operations, transportation, and executive leadership to support both short-term performance and long-term growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute commercial strategies to increase inbound scrap volumes and outbound commodity sales.
- Manage and grow relationships with industrial generators, manufacturers, demolition contractors, brokers, foundries, mills, and end consumers.
- Lead a team of buyers while providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
- Monitor market conditions, commodity trends, pricing movements, and competitive activity to support purchasing and sales decisions.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and service programs with suppliers and customers.
- Collaborate with operations teams to optimize inventory management, material flow, processing priorities, and shipment schedules.
- Support development and expansion of industrial recycling programs, in-plant services, and strategic customer partnerships.
- Identify new business opportunities and market segments to drive growth across ferrous, nonferrous, and specialty commodities.
- Work closely with transportation and logistics teams to maximize freight efficiency and customer service performance.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics while managing commercial profitability objectives.
- Maintain strong customer relationships through regular site visits, business reviews, and strategic account management.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of commercial, purchasing, sales, or trading experience within the metals recycling industry.
- Strong understanding of ferrous and nonferrous scrap markets, grading specifications, processing methods, and end-user requirements.
- Experience managing key accounts, industrial recycling programs, or commodity trading activities.
- Demonstrated success leading commercial teams and driving profitable growth.
- Strong knowledge of market pricing, supply chain dynamics, freight markets, and inventory management.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned market territory.
