Overview:
A growing and well-established metals recycling company in the Midwest is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to support continued expansion across its processing operations. This is a newly created position designed to strengthen leadership, improve efficiencies, and support long-term growth initiatives.
This role will oversee daily yard operations with a strong emphasis on non-ferrous processing, while also supporting ferrous operations, shipping & receiving, inventory flow, and material quality control. The ideal candidate will bring a hands-on leadership style, strong commercial awareness, and deep knowledge of scrap processing and grading.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations across ferrous and non-ferrous processing activities
- Manage inbound and outbound material flow, including shipping, receiving, and inventory coordination
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of 40+ employees across yard and processing functions
- Ensure proper grading, sorting, and processing of ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- Support purchasing and pricing decisions through market awareness and material knowledge
- Improve operational efficiency, throughput, and recovery rates
- Maintain quality control standards across all material streams
- Coordinate logistics, transportation, and customer shipments
- Monitor production metrics, inventory accuracy, and material yields
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards
- Travel to additional company locations as needed to support operations and standardization efforts
Requirements:
- 5+ years of leadership experience in metals recycling, scrap processing, or related industrial operations
- Strong knowledge of non-ferrous grading, pricing, processing, and market trends (preferred)
- Working knowledge of ferrous scrap grading and processing operations
- Experience with shipping, receiving, logistics, and inventory management
- Proven ability to lead teams in high-volume production environments
- Strong understanding of operational KPIs, production flow, and material recovery
- Experience managing equipment, processing systems, and yard workflow
- Ability to work cross-functionally with commercial, logistics, and executive leadership
- Willingness to travel to multiple facilities as needed
