Overview:
A well-established metals recycling company is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance strategy and reliability of a high-volume processing operation. This leadership role is ideal for an individual with a strong background in heavy industrial equipment who enjoys improving maintenance systems, developing teams, and driving equipment reliability.
This position is primarily focused on maintenance planning, coordination, and leadership rather than performing daily mechanical repairs. The Maintenance Manager will work closely with operations to prioritize repairs, manage preventive maintenance initiatives, and ensure maximum equipment uptime across the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and continuously improve the facility’s preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Plan, prioritize, and coordinate repairs to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime
- Supervise and support the maintenance team, providing direction, coaching, and performance management
- Develop maintenance schedules and allocate labor based on operational priorities
- Manage parts inventory, procurement, and vendor relationships to ensure timely availability of critical components
- Coordinate outside contractors and specialized service providers as needed
- Track maintenance metrics, equipment history, and repair costs to drive continuous improvement
- Partner with operations leadership to improve reliability, efficiency, and production throughput
- Establish and maintain maintenance documentation, work orders, and equipment records
- Promote a strong culture of safety and compliance throughout the maintenance department
- Participate in capital improvement projects, equipment upgrades, and installation planning
Equipment Experience Preferred:
Experience supporting or maintaining heavy industrial processing equipment such as:
- Pre-shredders
- Hammermill shredders
- Hydraulic balers
- Shears
- Aluminum processing equipment
- Conveyors, material handling systems, and mobile equipment
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience in metals recycling or another heavy industrial environment
- Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Experience planning and coordinating maintenance activities in a production environment
- Proven ability to lead maintenance personnel and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience with maintenance budgeting, parts inventory, procurement, and vendor management
- Working knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Computer proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar maintenance planning software
Preferred Background:
- Experience supporting shredders, balers, shears, or other heavy processing equipment
- Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Hands-on mechanical background with the ability to provide technical guidance and support when needed, while focusing primarily on maintenance planning and leadership
