Overview:
Mega Shredder Operation in the Northeast seeks an experienced Shredder Supervisor. The Shredder Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shredder plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable processing of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, leadership ability, and experience in a heavy industrial or recycling environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and coordinate all shredder activities to ensure continuous and safe operations.
- Oversee infeed, shredding, and downstream systems including magnets, eddy current, and picking lines.
- Track production data, equipment performance, and material quality.
- Supervise a team of operators, pickers, and support staff across multiple shifts.
- Provide hands-on training in equipment operation, safety procedures, and best practices.
- Create and manage shift schedules, labor assignments, and timekeeping.
- Work closely with maintenance personnel to conduct preventive maintenance and urgent repairs.
- Perform equipment inspections and report issues related to mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA compliance standards.
- Lead daily toolbox talks and perform safety audits.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to lockout/tagout procedures.
- Quality Control
- Monitor output material for quality and contamination.
- Coordinate with the scale house and yard team for optimal material flow and load-out timing.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in shredder or heavy industrial operations.
- 1+ year in a supervisory or lead role.
- Knowledge of shredder systems (e.g., hammermill, downstream recovery, air systems).
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
- Ability to read blueprints or equipment schematics a plus.
- Proficient in communicating with operations, safety, and maintenance teams.
- Familiarity with Lean principles or production tracking systems preferred.
- Forklift or loader certification.
