Overview:
A well-established metals recycling company is seeking a Scrap Metal Buyer to join its commercial team. This role is responsible for developing and managing relationships with industrial accounts, manufacturers, demolition contractors, dealers, and other scrap suppliers throughout the region. The ideal candidate understands both ferrous and non-ferrous commodities and enjoys building long-term customer partnerships while driving profitable material flow.

Responsibilities:
- Develop new business opportunities while maintaining and expanding existing supplier relationships.
- Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap from industrial accounts, dealers, manufacturers, and commercial customers.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and purchase agreements based on current market conditions.
- Monitor commodity markets and adjust buying strategies accordingly.
- Coordinate logistics with transportation and yard operations to ensure timely movement of material.
- Work closely with operations to ensure accurate grading, quality, and processing of purchased material.
- Conduct regular customer visits throughout the assigned territory.
- Prepare pricing proposals, quotations, and purchasing reports.
- Resolve customer concerns while maintaining a high level of service and professionalism.
- Achieve purchasing volume and profitability goals established by leadership.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years metals recycling industry ferrous / non-ferrous scrap metals purchasing experience
- Knowledge of scrap grades, market pricing, and recycling operations is highly desirable.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to identify new business opportunities and grow an existing territory.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Comfortable traveling locally to meet customers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and CRM or purchasing software.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
