Overview:
A metals recycling company seeks an experienced Non-Ferrous Supervisor to oversee day-to-day non-ferrous processing, scale purchasing, and production activities at its Texas facility.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for supervising employees, maintaining production flow, purchasing and grading incoming scrap, ensuring material quality, and supporting safe and efficient processing of non-ferrous metals. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of non-ferrous commodities and experience buying scrap metal directly from customers over the scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily non-ferrous processing, sorting, grading, and production activities.
- Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal over the scale from retail, commercial, and other incoming customers.
- Accurately identify, grade, and price incoming scrap materials based on current buying guidelines and market conditions.
- Build positive relationships with scale customers while maintaining purchasing discipline and protecting company margins.
- Lead, train, schedule, and hold production employees accountable for performance and safety.
- Ensure accurate identification and separation of aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, insulated wire, and other non-ferrous commodities.
- Monitor material quality and minimize contamination, downgrade, and unnecessary material loss.
- Coordinate material flow from receiving through processing, inventory, and outbound shipment.
- Work closely with operations and commercial personnel to prioritize production and meet shipment requirements.
- Monitor equipment utilization and communicate maintenance or repair needs.
- Maintain organized inventory and storage areas while supporting accurate material tracking.
- Enforce company safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture throughout the department.
- Identify opportunities to improve recovery, productivity, housekeeping, and overall operating efficiency.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years non-ferrous scrap metal recycling experience.
- Experience purchasing, pricing, and grading scrap metal over the scale.
- Strong knowledge of non-ferrous metal identification, including copper, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, insulated wire, and related commodities.
- Supervisory, lead, or management experience within a scrap yard, recycling facility, or similar industrial operation.
- Ability to make sound purchasing decisions while balancing customer relationships, material quality, and company margins.
- Ability to lead employees in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment.
- Understanding of material quality, contamination control, inventory, and recovery.
- Familiarity with scrap processing equipment and basic maintenance practices.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Safety-focused leadership style with the ability to enforce operating standards.
