Overview:
A well-established metals recycling company is seeking an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Manager to lead equipment maintenance and repair activities at a busy scrap-processing facility.
This is not a desk-based maintenance management position. The ideal candidate is a working manager who enjoys troubleshooting equipment, turning wrenches, and working alongside the maintenance team while also providing the leadership and organization necessary to keep the operation running.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead maintenance activities while working hands-on alongside mechanics and production personnel.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair plant and mobile equipment.
- Perform and oversee mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, welding, and fabrication repairs.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns and help get critical equipment back into operation.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic systems, motors, pumps, cylinders, bearings, conveyors, and other industrial components.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, material handlers, loaders, trucks, trailers, and processing machinery.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and improve equipment reliability.
- Supervise and train maintenance personnel while remaining actively involved in day-to-day repair work.
- Prioritize repairs based on safety, production demands, and equipment condition.
- Coordinate larger repairs and specialized work with outside contractors and equipment vendors when necessary.
- Maintain an appropriate inventory of critical parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Assist with equipment installations, modifications, rebuilds, and facility improvement projects.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on industrial or heavy equipment maintenance experience.
- Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Lead Mechanic, Maintenance Foreman, or similar working-leadership position.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
- Experience with hydraulics, welding/fabrication, electrical troubleshooting, diesel equipment, and industrial machinery.
- Comfortable diagnosing equipment failures and performing repairs personally when needed.
- Experience maintaining heavy processing and material-handling equipment strongly preferred.
- Background in scrap metal recycling, steel, aggregates, mining, heavy manufacturing, demolition, or similar industrial operations is highly desirable.
- Ability to lead and develop mechanics while maintaining a hands-on presence in the shop and yard.
- Strong understanding of preventive maintenance and equipment reliability.
- Commitment to safe work practices in a heavy industrial environment.
