A leading metals recycling organization is seeking an experienced Non-Ferrous Trader to drive sales and market development for its non-ferrous commodities. This position will focus heavily on direct sales to mills, smelters, foundries, and other consuming facilities, while developing and maintaining strong relationships throughout the domestic non-ferrous market.
The ideal candidate will bring an established network of mill and consumer contacts, strong knowledge of non-ferrous specifications and markets, and a proven ability to identify the best outlets for material while maximizing margins.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage direct sales of non-ferrous scrap to mills, smelters, foundries, and other end consumers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with mill purchasing teams and key decision-makers.
- Leverage an established consumer network to expand outlets and identify new sales opportunities.
- Negotiate pricing, volumes, specifications, freight, and commercial terms directly with consuming facilities.
- Monitor non-ferrous markets, spreads, mill demand, and regional pricing to maximize material value.
- Develop sales strategies for aluminum, copper, brass, stainless, and other non-ferrous commodities.
- Match available inventory with appropriate consumers based on grade, chemistry, specifications, location, and market conditions.
- Work closely with purchasing and operations teams to understand inventory positions and determine the most profitable outlets.
- Coordinate transportation and logistics to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery to consumers.
- Manage quality claims, specifications, pricing discrepancies, and other commercial issues.
- Develop new mill and consumer relationships to expand the company’s market reach.
- Maintain regular communication with existing consumers to understand demand, buying programs, and upcoming opportunities.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- 7+ years of non-ferrous scrap trading, sales, or commercial experience.
- Proven mill-direct sales experience within the non-ferrous metals industry.
- Established relationships and contacts with mills, smelters, foundries, and other end consumers.
- Strong knowledge of aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, and other non-ferrous grades and specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate profitable sales and develop long-term consumer relationships.
- Strong understanding of commodity markets, freight, spreads, material quality, and consumer specifications.
- Ability to identify the highest-value outlets for material and make sound commercial decisions in changing markets.
- Existing book of consumer relationships or transferable mill contacts strongly preferred.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-development skills.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent metals industry experience.
