Overview:
An established metals recycling company is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day operations across two processing facilities. This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong focus on ferrous production, equipment uptime, safety, material recovery, quality, and operational efficiency.
The Operations Manager will lead production, yard, and maintenance teams while driving continuous improvement across shredding, shearing, torching, material handling, and non-ferrous recovery operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations across two metals recycling facilities
- Lead ferrous processing operations, including shredding, shearing, and torch cutting
- Maximize throughput, recovery, equipment utilization, and finished-product quality
- Establish and monitor production, downtime, recovery, inventory, and efficiency metrics
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement improvements to material flow and productivity
- Coordinate with maintenance leadership on preventive maintenance, repairs, shutdowns, and equipment reliability
- Manage yard flow, finished-goods inventory, and coordination of inbound and outbound material
- Maintain strong standards for ferrous and non-ferrous quality control
- Lead supervisors and employees while reinforcing accountability, productivity, and teamwork
- Drive safety programs and OSHA compliance across both facilities
- Support environmental compliance, including stormwater, SPCC, inspections, and required documentation
- Assist with equipment upgrades, capital projects, and other operational improvements
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of metals recycling industry operations leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of ferrous scrap processing, ideally including shredder and/or shear operations
- Experience leading production teams and frontline supervisors
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment, maintenance, and preventive maintenance programs
- Proven ability to improve production efficiency, equipment uptime, and material recovery
- Knowledge of scrap grades, quality, inventory, and material flow strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of OSHA and industrial safety practices
- Environmental compliance experience is a plus
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
