Overview:
Construction Company is seeking a Vice President of Construction to be responsible for operations including civil site work, asphalt paving, trucking and underground utilities.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the safety of all personnel and property on all projects and work co-operatively with staff to ensure everyone stays committed to achieving a zero-injury safety culture.
- Works directly with the SMA Vice President to manage the day-to-day business activity for estimating, grading, utilities, site prep, concrete, trucking and asphalt paving with a team of 500+ employees.
- Work directly with the SMA Vice President to drive the strategic vision for the market area focused on growth.
- Actively involved with the annual business plan review process.
- Oversee the successful bidding & building of heavy highway, commercial, city, county and residential.
- Manage and motivate approximately 5-6 direct reports responsible for civil site construction, asphalt paving, utilities, project management, logistics and other duties related to all facets of civil construction.
- Ensure projects are being managed to meet strict financial metrics.
- Oversee monthly DOT lettings with estimating and production teams.
- Ensure good working relationships with DOT, City, County and all customers across the region.
- Ensure good working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and vendors are developed and maintained.
- Maintain good industry involvement with associations and state and local government relationships.
Requirements:
- 12-15 years of direct industry experience, along w/ a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or related field of study preferred; previous civil estimating experience and P&L responsibility required.
- Demonstrable knowledge of all construction processes with an emphasis on civil work.
- Ability to communicate and work with senior management to achieve the necessary goals set for specific projects.
- Proven ability to supervise, train and develop personnel.
- Must be able to perform in a team atmosphere, need good inquiry skills.
- Ability to read plans and proposals, visualize the job and see the opportunities.
- Proven performer with bottom-line responsibility.
- Manage projects involving incentives/disincentives with strict deadlines and a knack for pushing the schedule.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal and external customers.
- Strategic thinker with growth in mind.
