Overview:
Construction Company is seeking a Superintendent to be assigned to heavy civil projects.
Responsibilities:
- Empower paving superintendents and their crews with a clear understanding of duties and responsibilities by providing accurate information, direction, and the necessary tools, materials, and equipment.
- Cultivate a strong safety culture on projects by motivating and enforcing best practices daily.
- Ensure the highest level of quality is consistently delivered on all projects.
- Execute projects profitably by thoroughly understanding the scope of work, budget, and expectations.
- Maintain meticulous project documentation, including daily reports, field/inspection reports, purchase orders, contracts, billing reports, receipts, delivery tickets, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
- Monitor subcontractor performance for adherence to project documents and proactively manage quality control cost reports, change-order requests, monthly billing input, punch lists, and other standard operating procedure reports.
- Identify potential problems early, developing and implementing effective strategies to overcome obstacles.
- Develop, monitor, and enforce compliance with the site-specific safety manual.
- Maintain a clean and safe job site, ensuring thorough documentation and adherence to OSHA regulations.
- Guarantee proper safety equipment is available and used by all field personnel.
- Notify appropriate personnel of safety violations and take corrective action when necessary
- Coordinate and conduct employee orientation, safety training, program administration, labor relations, and site security.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, owner’s on-site representatives, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Lead or actively participate in project pre-planning meetings with subcontractors to familiarize them with project schedules, construction methods, company procedures, policies, and quality standards.
- Participate with the project manager in weekly and monthly reviews, immediately reporting any issues or delays.
- Create and maintain a three-week look-ahead for all work that reflects the project schedule, ensuring all required resources are available.
- Preplan all schedule activities, manpower, and material requirements for each project, providing regular communication with the project team.
- Maintain up-to-date progress information, including labor and material cost data.
- Ensure accurate and updated documents are maintained on-site.
- Review, expedite, and monitor material deliveries in accordance with the project schedule, reviewing all design revisions for added cost and schedule impact.
- Provide quality control and assurance support on self-performed and subcontractor work.
- Communicate and proactively address all subcontractor issues, resolving project problems, disputes, and open issues daily.
- Ensure the punch list is completed per exit strategy requirements and report final numbers.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with specific experience in DOT, FAA, Municipal, and Mainline Paving Projects.
- Excellent leadership skills with a comprehensive understanding of supervising, directing, and mentoring multiple crews.
- Proven understanding of and commitment to all safety requirements, with the ability to effectively work with personnel to ensure project safety.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, change orders, cost codes, and purchase orders, with a thorough understanding of overall job design.
- Experience working on projects ranging from $50K to $5M.
- Ability to proactively identify and address issues before they escalate, anticipating challenges and developing preventative measures.
- Proven time management skills, with the ability to be self-directed, stay focused, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to use good judgment, initiative, and make sound decisions with limited supervision.
- Ability to adapt and remain flexible in a dynamic environment, making informed decisions quickly.
- Strong technical skills with the ability to efficiently navigate electronic devices such as tablets, etc.
- Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record that complies with company requirements.
- Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and a wide range of hours as needed.
