Overview:
The Dredge Master is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of dredging vessels and equipment. This position oversees all dredging operations onboard, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and manage dredging equipment, including cutter suction, trailing suction hopper, or other types of dredgers.
- Supervise and coordinate daily dredging operations and crew activities.
- Monitor dredge positioning systems and production parameters.
- Ensure safe navigation and maneuvering of the dredge.
- Conduct regular inspections and routine maintenance of dredge machinery and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of dredging performance, fuel usage, and downtime.
- Liaise with onshore management and project engineers to align daily operations with project goals.
- Comply with all maritime and environmental regulations.
- Lead onboard safety meetings and enforce safety protocols.
- Experience commissioning new dredges
Requirements:
- Valid Dredge Master certification/license is highly preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in dredging operations, including leadership or supervisory roles.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, dredging technology, and marine navigation.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Sufficient education to make appropriate arithmetic equations and complete written documentation and records; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training that provides the desired knowledge, skills and characteristics
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings, follow routers, use simple math, and use basic handheld measuring tools
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, and basic electrical repair
- Must be able to train Dredge Operators, Dredge Mechanics, and Deckhands
