Overview:
Large company seeks Quarry Superintendent to assist the Operations Manager in supervising & managing the performance of day-to-day operational activities which include pit and/or plant production as well as plant and mobile equipment maintenance. The right candidate will be responsible for all aspects of training and developing a safe and effective hourly workforce through use of the company’s safety policies & procedures, MSHA and other regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Follow all company policies and local, state and federal regulations for safe working procedures.
- Take a personal role in the safety program by developing relevant topics for catwalk conversations, driving the conversations and following the program outline in its entirety.
- Promote and support the plant safety advocate(s) in their duties.
- Ensure that all hourly employees under his/her area of responsibility receive competent task training to safely perform his/her job duties.
- Ensure that all safety training is properly documented in a timely manner.
- Fully investigate, determine root cause and find a collective resolution to all incidents and safety concern reports and complete all necessary reporting requirements in a timely manner.
- Directly supervise all daily activities of all supervisors and hourly production, maintenance and support personnel.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure all safety, maintenance and plant cleanup items are addressed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Assist Operations Manager with screening, interviewing and hiring supervisors and hourly production, maintenance and support personnel.
- Conduct positive contact coaching and performance improvement discussions with all employees under his/her area of responsibility and properly document discussions in a timely manner.
- Constantly evaluate all processes and procedures and give recommendations that will optimize operations.
- Assist the Operations Manager in determining capital equipment needs which includes type and manufacturer of equipment, cost projections and cost justifications.
- Assist the Operations Manager with all daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reporting requirements.
Requirements:
- High School diploma.
- 5+ years’ experience in aggregate mining operations with a general understanding of blasting, crushers, screens, conveyors and associated processing equipment.
- Experience with quality control procedures and ability to make necessary changes to meet gradations.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including swing shift, graveyard shift, over time and weekends as required.
- Good leadership abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude that fosters effective relationships.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Excellent written communication skills (tests will be administered).
- Basic Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills (tests will be administered).
- Must be able to type 25 wpm correctly (tests will be administered).
- Good math skills including ability to figure stockpile volumes, conveyor belt speeds, sheave speeds, etc. (tests will be administered).
- Excellent mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work near, around or on light or heavy equipment.
- Currently possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license and good driving record.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform duties of position.
- Must be willing and able to obtain a state supervisor’s green card.
- Must be willing and able to obtain a visible emissions certificate (smoke school).
- Must be willing to relocate if necessary.
- Must be able to lift objects of various dimensions and up to 75lb in weight
