Overview:
The Asphalt Lab and Quality Supervisor is a working supervisor role responsible for the testing and compliance of asphalt products to ensure adherence to agency and/or customer specifications. This position works under the direction of the Plant Manager.
The ideal candidate will have or be able to quickly obtain AASHTO Certification. Company will pay for all certifications, if not already certified.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform the asphalt plant lab activities and testing requirements.
- Perform routine testing of asphalt and make recommendations on adjustments to material properties to ensure compliance with job, agency, or state specifications.
- Perform daily quality control testing of asphalt binders, perform lab adjustments and testing of asphalt emulsions and cut-backs, perform data collection and reporting to meet job and agency specifications.
- Complete documentation needed to support testing procedures, including data capture forms, equipment logbooks, or inventory forms.
- Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials and raw materials.
- Perform visual inspections of finished products.
- Participate in internal assessments and external audits as required, including AASHTO audits.
- Write technical reports or documentation, such as deviation reports, testing protocols, and trend analyses.
- Participate in out-of-specification and failure investigations and recommend corrective actions.
- Communicate testing results to the plant, internal departments and government agencies.
- Ensures safe lab operations.
- Maintain lab cleanliness and equipment maintenance.
- Partner with the Assistant Plant Manager to address product issues or concerns, training of plant personnel, understanding of quality and compliance and reporting requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- This position does not have direct reports, rather manages lab functions.
Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail.
- Highly organized.
- Possess good mathematical and critical thinking skills.
- Occasionally requires lifting over 50 lbs.
- High School Diploma, post-secondary/technical education, or lab related certification preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong understanding of lab testing equipment.
- Strong technical aptitude.
- Understand Chemistry and its application.
- Prior experience with AASHTO lab accreditation a plus.
