Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Asphalt Marketing to lead commercial marketing initiatives across the roofing and paving products sectors. This role will focus on building high-performing teams, coaching cross-functional commercial organizations, and driving market growth through deep technical expertise in asphalt blending, applications, and customer solutions.
The ideal candidate combines strong marketing leadership with technical sales experience and a comprehensive understanding of asphalt blending operations, formulation performance, and end-use applications. This individual will serve as a key link between commercial strategy, product development, operations, and customer engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial & Marketing Leadership:
- Develop and execute strategic marketing plans for asphalt products serving roofing and paving markets.
- Identify market trends, customer needs, competitive positioning, and growth opportunities across North America.
- Lead product positioning, value proposition development, and go-to-market strategies for specialty asphalt solutions.
- Partner with Sales, Operations, R&D, and Supply Chain teams to align commercial objectives and market execution.
- Support pricing strategy, market intelligence, and customer segmentation initiatives.
Team Coaching & Leadership:
- Coach and mentor marketing, technical sales, and commercial teams to strengthen market knowledge and customer engagement capabilities.
- Build a collaborative, performance-driven culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and customer success.
- Provide leadership development and technical training related to asphalt applications, blending processes, and product performance.
- Foster strong cross-functional communication between field sales, technical services, manufacturing, and leadership teams.
Technical Sales & Customer Engagement:
- Serve as a technical and commercial resource for key customers within the roofing and paving industries.
- Support strategic customer relationships through product expertise, application guidance, and problem-solving.
- Collaborate with customers on application performance, specification requirements, and product optimization.
- Participate in industry events, trade associations, and customer presentations to strengthen market presence.
Asphalt Blending & Application Expertise:
- Provide subject matter expertise in asphalt blending technologies, formulations, modifiers, and performance characteristics.
- Understand refinery and terminal blending operations, raw material interactions, and quality considerations.
- Support the development and commercialization of innovative asphalt products and application solutions.
- Translate technical product capabilities into customer-focused marketing and sales strategies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, Chemistry, Construction Materials, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in asphalt, roofing, paving, construction materials, or related industrial markets.
- Proven leadership experience in marketing, technical sales, product management, or commercial strategy.
- Strong understanding of asphalt blending processes, formulations, modifiers, and field applications.
- Experience coaching and developing commercial or technical teams.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated success managing customer relationships and driving revenue growth.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support customers, plants, terminals, and industry events.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience supporting both roofing and paving asphalt product lines.
