Overview:
The Lab Supervisor is responsible for supervision of all operation & functions of the sealant engineer lab, lab work when necessary and quality control operations for the materials produced at the Arizona Facility. Lab operations functions include inventory and control of incoming experimental raw materials and documentation, inventory and control of incoming production lab sample raw materials and documentation, lab equipment in proper working order, lab cleanliness, lab equipment calibration, assignment of work to technicians, training of technicians, and communication of lab work to the engineering function. Quality Control functions include ensuring that required testing for raw materials and finished goods are completed in a timely manner, results records are kept accurately and completely, sample submissions for agencies are completed according to the quality assurance manual and a thorough knowledge of the quality assurance manual. All tasks must be performed in accordance with safety protocols.
General Organizational Duties:
- Assure that the lab operation is staffed with qualified and trained personnel to perform required functions accurately and on time.
- Organization and assignment of functions to supervised employees.
- Interviewing, hiring and training of additional lab employees as needed.
- Supervising lab employees, including performance reviews, scheduling personal time, enforcing company personnel and safety policies.
- Understanding overall plant operations, and establishing good, positive working relationships with other plant departments and personnel.
- Maintain works areas and equipment in a neat, clean and organized manner.
Specific Duties:
- Maintain records of raw materials accurately and completely
- Assure assigned lab work is carried out correctly in accordance with the quality control manual and in a timely manner.
- Perform, coordinate, and supervise, as needed, performance of required raw materials and finished product quality assurance testing and reporting.
- Determine quality of produced products and communicate specification conformance and warehouse designations to other departments as required.
- Prompt entry of quality control and other testing results obtained into computer data bases and files as required.
- Prepare reports and issue to other company personnel as required.
- Supervision, training, and monitoring of additional technicians as required to assure proper results are obtained.
- Sample preparation, verification, coordination, submission, follow up, and communication with agencies to obtain needed product approvals.
Measure of Effectiveness:
- Quality of functioning of the plant Quality Control Lab functions.
- Quality and completeness of supervision of other lab employees.
- Accuracy, completeness and timeliness of testing performed and reporting.
- Quality of relationships with other plant supervisors and management.
