Position Summary:
Seeking a highly motivated and experienced Plant Manager to lead operations at an asphalt production facility, specializing in asphalt emulsions, polymer-modified asphalt (PMA), and performance-graded (PG) binders. This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of the plant, while delivering high-quality products and meeting customer demand.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, a deep understanding of asphalt formulation and production processes, and a commitment to continuous improvement in safety, quality, and plant performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily plant operations, including production, maintenance, safety, and quality control.
- Ensure all asphalt products (emulsions, PMA, PG) are produced to specification and meet DOT and customer requirements.
- Lead and develop plant personnel, including operators, maintenance staff, and lab technicians.
- Manage plant scheduling to align with customer orders and logistics requirements.
- Enforce strict adherence to environmental regulations and company safety protocols (OSHA, EPA, SPCC, etc.).
- Collaborate with sales, technical services, and logistics teams to support customer satisfaction and product delivery.
- Control plant operating budgets, inventory levels, and cost efficiencies.
- Maintain and improve preventative maintenance programs for plant equipment, tanks, and blending systems.
- Champion lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare and submit production and performance reports to senior management.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in asphalt manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong technical knowledge of asphalt emulsions, PMA, and PG binders.
- Experience with plant automation systems and asphalt blending equipment (e.g., colloid mills, polymer blenders, heating systems).
- Working knowledge of DOT specifications, AASHTO standards, and quality control testing procedures.
- Proven leadership ability with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP systems preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Construction Materials, or related field (preferred but not required).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with state DOTs and understanding of regional asphalt binder requirements.
- Familiarity with ISO or other quality management systems.
- CDL or hazmat certification a plus.
