Overview:
Asphalt Producer is seeking a Quality Control Manager to be responsible for the HMA quality control program for the organization and providing leadership for the team.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for own personal safety at all times, as well as maintaining the highest standard of safety and quality in all aspects of the job.
- Promotes a safe and productive working environment with a sustainable safety culture.
- Adhere to and follow all safety rules and regulations of MSHA/OSHA/DOT.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Quality Control team to ensure high quality, efficiency and service.
- Exhibit leadership principles with the Quality Control and Hot Mix Asphalt teams and continue to grow in leadership.
- Supports development of Hot Mix Asphalt strategy leveraging Quality Control to maximize cost and plant efficiency and development of operational and market strategies.
- Innovative development of new and existing products with a focus on sustainability.
- Develop formulas that will produce quality products at the most efficient cost.
- Evaluate raw materials and look for opportunities to improve products by optimizing formulas.
- Build and maintain standards for quality control processes.
- Monitor quality assurance testing and provide updates to General Manager.
- Drive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including mix optimization, design optimization, recycle efficiency and bonus capture.
- Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished products.
- Formulate and maintain quality assurance objectives and coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with operations to maximize product reliability and minimize cost.
- Plan, promote and organize training activities related to asphalt products quality and reliability.
- Maintains continual awareness of changes in the production process and evaluates their impact on the quality of product. Recommends processing changes.
- Investigate and address customer complaints regarding asphalt quality.
- Industry involvement in associations pertaining to asphalt.
- Oversee Certification program and schedule training/certifications/recertifications as needed.
- Support team in troubleshooting mix issues at plants and in the field.
- Collaborate with sales team to resolve customer and agency issues and to be proactive on projects.
- Visit projects and engage with customers and crew to ensure we are providing quality product and continuously improving.
- Support pre-bid planning, including mix pricing and design/placement specifications.
- Collaborate with agencies including DOT, township and other third party assigned by owners to be proactive in producing and resolving any issues that arise.
- Participate in and support committees as needed including Divisional Performance Committees.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from four-year College or University; or 3 or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 or more years of related experience in Quality Control or related exposure from other function in industry is preferred.
- 3 or more years of managing, coaching and leading people in a team environment is preferred.
- DOT Asphalt Plant Level 2 certified, Superpave Mix Design certified, or related, preferred.
- Experience in training others on technical aspects of quality control preferred.
- Agency/customer facing experiences where negotiations, relationships and conflict resolution were exhibited.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective procurement, manufacture, and distribution of products.
