Overview:
A growing heavy civil and concrete paving contractor is seeking a skilled GPS Technician to support field operations by managing machine control systems, construction layout, and digital models. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate grading, paving alignment, and project efficiency through the use of advanced GPS technology.
Responsibilities:
- Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot GPS machine control systems on heavy equipment including dozers, motor graders, and paving equipment
- Work with project managers, superintendents, and survey crews to prepare and manage digital site models
- Perform site calibration, base station setup, and daily GPS system checks
- Provide field layout support using GPS rover equipment and total stations when needed
- Train operators and field crews on the use of GPS machine control systems
- Upload, update, and maintain project models and design files
- Ensure accurate grade control and alignment for earthwork and paving operations
- Troubleshoot GPS and construction technology issues in the field
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience working with construction GPS systems in heavy civil, highway, or paving construction
- Experience with Trimble, Topcon, Leica, or similar machine control systems
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, grading plans, and digital models
- Strong understanding of site calibration, base stations, and grade control
- Experience supporting earthwork, grading, or concrete paving operations preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with field crews and management
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required
Preferred Experience:
- Heavy highway or concrete paving construction
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, or similar
- Experience with machine control installation and system troubleshooting
