UEA has partnered with a well-established California-based asphalt paving contractor to identify a Senior Estimator. This is a direct-hire opportunity with a stable, growth-oriented industry leader specializing in asphalt paving, milling, and pavement preservation projects.
Position Summary:
The Senior Estimator will prepare detailed, competitive cost estimates for asphalt paving, milling, and pavement preservation projects, including Caltrans, municipal, commercial, and private work. Project scopes include hot mix asphalt (HMA) paving, mill and overlay, micro-surfacing, slurry seal, chip seal, and crack seal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate, competitive estimates and bid proposals
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for asphalt paving, milling, overlays, micro-surfacing, slurry seal, chip seal, crack seal, and related pavement preservation scopes
- Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor and material supplier pricing
- Prepare and submit hard bid, unit price, and lump sum proposals to Caltrans, municipal, and private clients
- Conduct cost analysis, value engineering, and review of RFPs, RFQs, and ITBs
- Collaborate with operations and project management on bid-to-execution handoff
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 10+ years of estimating experience in the asphalt paving industry — required, no exceptions
- Demonstrated experience estimating milling and pavement preservation projects (micro-surfacing, slurry seal, chip seal, crack seal)
- Strong knowledge of Caltrans specifications, public works bidding procedures, and DIR/prevailing wage requirements preferred
- Proficiency with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, B2W Estimate, AGTEK, Bid2Win, or similar), Bluebeam, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong plan reading, blueprint reading, and specification review skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range: $160,000 – $180,000, commensurate with experience
