Overview:
A long-established leader in the scrap recycling industry, is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Commercial Director to lead the company’s commercial strategy and drive growth during an exciting period of operational expansion. This senior-level role will be responsible for overseeing scrap procurement, sales, and market development, building strong supplier relationships while maximizing downstream sales channels.
The Commercial Director will play a key role in shaping the company’s next phase of growth by strengthening its supply base, identifying new revenue streams, and ensuring competitive positioning in the regional and national metals market.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage supplier relationships across industrial accounts, dealers, and peddler networks to ensure consistent inbound material flow.
- Lead sales efforts for ferrous and non-ferrous commodities, establishing strong relationships with mills, foundries, and trading partners.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities, customers, and supplier partnerships to support the company’s expanding processing capabilities.
- Collaborate with ownership and senior management to design and implement commercial strategies aligned with long-term growth initiatives.
- Oversee pricing strategy, hedging, and market analysis to optimize margins and maintain competitiveness.
- Mentor and develop commercial staff, instilling best practices in negotiation, customer service, and business development.
- Represent the company with professionalism, building lasting partnerships based on trust, reliability, and responsiveness.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of commercial experience in metals recycling, steelmaking, or related commodities sector.
- Strong track record of scrap procurement and commodity sales.
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous markets, pricing mechanisms, and downstream outlets.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to develop new supplier/customer networks.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Proven ability to analyze market trends and translate them into actionable strategies.
- Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and guide commercial teams.
