Overview:
Established Metals Recycling operation seeks a detail-oriented Controller who can oversee the financial activities and contribute to the company’s strategic growth.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with regulations and optimize financial performance.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to support strategic decision-making by the executive team.
- Manage cash flow, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and collections.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and timely filing of tax returns.
- Provide regular financial reports and analysis to the executive team and stakeholders to support decision-making.
Cost Management:
- Monitor and analyze operational costs, identifying opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Develop and implement cost control measures to ensure profitability and sustainable growth.
- Evaluate pricing strategies and provide recommendations to maximize revenue and profitability.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards, including GAAP and state-specific regulations.
- Assess financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, including insurance coverage and hedging strategies.
- Collaborate with legal counsel and regulatory agencies to address compliance issues and mitigate risks.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor the finance team (5+), providing guidance and support to foster professional growth and development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
- Encourage cross-functional collaboration and communication to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
- 5+ years of metals recycling industry financial management experience
- Strong understanding of financial principles, practices, and regulations, including GAAP.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience with financial software and ERP systems; proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on developing and motivating team members.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
