Overview:
A growing metals recycling company is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for a dynamic, inventory-intensive business. This position will play a key role in supporting executive leadership by providing accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting future business growth and acquisitions.
The ideal candidate will have previous accounting experience within the metals recycling industry and a strong understanding of inventory accounting, commodity-based financial reporting, and industry-specific inventory management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the month-end and year-end close process, financial reporting, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting.
- Manage inventory accounting, reconciliation, valuation, and internal inventory controls.
- Maintain accurate financial records related to commodity purchases, sales, and inventory movement.
- Utilize and manage scrap inventory and accounting systems to support operational reporting and financial accuracy.
- Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Partner with operations and executive leadership to analyze business performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support future acquisitions through financial integration and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within metals recycling or another inventory-intensive industry.
- Strong experience with month-end close, financial reporting, inventory accounting, and cost analysis.
- Experience with scrap inventory management systems and ERP/accounting software.
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous inventory accounting and commodity-based businesses.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Previous supervisory or accounting leadership experience preferred.
