Overview:
A well-established, privately held metals recycling and industrial processing organization is seeking an experienced Corporate Director of Safety.
This position will serve as a key technical resource for safety matters across multiple operating locations, partnering closely with facility leadership and operations teams to strengthen safety performance, reduce workplace risk, and promote a proactive safety culture.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, people-oriented safety professional who understands industrial operations and is comfortable spending time in the field working directly with managers, supervisors, and employees. This individual should be able to identify risks, provide practical solutions, and build strong working relationships throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a corporate technical resource for workplace health and safety across multiple operating facilities.
- Partner with operations and facility leadership to develop, implement, and continuously improve company safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct regular facility safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments and work with management to implement corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver safety training for employees, supervisors, and operational leadership.
- Identify workplace hazards and recommend practical solutions to reduce injuries, incidents, and operational risk.
- Support and lead incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action initiatives.
- Provide guidance on OSHA requirements and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Support safety programs involving LOTO, machine guarding, mobile equipment, pedestrian safety, confined spaces, fall protection, hot work, PPE, contractor safety, and other industrial hazards.
- Monitor safety performance, incident trends, leading indicators, and corrective actions to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Partner with Operations and Maintenance to incorporate safety considerations into equipment, process changes, maintenance activities, and capital projects.
- Support regulatory inspections and interactions with applicable agencies.
- Provide safety guidance and coaching to facility managers, supervisors, and employees while reinforcing accountability at all levels of the organization.
- Support environmental compliance and improvement projects as needed, including audits, regulatory requirements, and facility initiatives.
- Travel to operating locations to maintain a strong field presence and provide hands-on safety support.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of industrial experience, with demonstrated responsibility for workplace health and safety programs or initiatives.
- Experience within metals recycling, scrap processing, steel, manufacturing, heavy industrial operations, or a related environment strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices.
- Experience with safety audits, employee training, incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build credibility with employees, supervisors, facility managers, and senior leadership.
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements and safety standards into practical solutions for operating facilities.
- Experience with scrap recycling, project management, regulatory agencies, environmental compliance, or operations management is beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or another technical discipline preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to travel approximately 25%, with flexibility based on operational needs.
