Overview:
A leading metals recycling organization is seeking an experienced Facility Manager to oversee the performance of a high-volume ferrous processing yard. This individual will be responsible for driving production, equipment uptime, safety performance, employee engagement, and overall operational results.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scrap recycling operations and experience managing large processing equipment, maintenance teams, and yard personnel within a fast-paced industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Providing leadership for all aspects of day-to-day recycling operations, including inbound material flow, scrap inspection and grading, inventory management, processing activities, and outbound shipments.
- Ensuring shredder operations consistently meet production targets while maintaining a strong focus on equipment reliability and preventative maintenance.
- Partnering with maintenance teams to prioritize repairs, manage outages, and improve overall plant uptime.
- Leading supervisors and hourly employees across production, maintenance, transportation, scale operations, and yard activities.
- Tracking key operating metrics including throughput, recovery rates, downtime, maintenance spend, and safety performance.
- Working closely with commercial, procurement, and logistics teams to maximize material flow and operational profitability.
- Supporting capital projects, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives designed to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Promoting a culture centered around safety, accountability, employee development, and operational excellence.
- Ensuring compliance with all company policies as well as applicable OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years metals recycling industry management experience
- Strong understanding of ferrous scrap operations, material grading, shredding, and downstream processing activities.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs and heavy mobile or stationary equipment.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel-powered equipment, electrical components, conveyors, shredders, and related processing machinery.
- Proven ability to lead teams, improve operational performance, and solve complex production challenges.
- Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Comfortable working in both office and outdoor production environments.
