Overview:
An established metals recycling company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Ferrous Trader to join its dynamic team. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of ferrous scrap grades, market trends, and commercial strategies, with proven experience selling upgraded ferrous materials into steel mills and foundries across the Midwest. This role will lead the marketing, negotiation, and sale of ferrous scrap from the company’s processing operations to a broad customer network. Success requires a strategic mindset, keen awareness of market opportunities, and close coordination with operations to ensure reliable supply and profitable trading performance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain relationships with Midwest steel mills and foundries
- Negotiate pricing, specifications, and contract terms
- Coordinate supply with internal operations and feeder yards
- Optimize margins across grades and destinations
- Monitor ferrous scrap market trends, mill demand, and pricing indices
- Track regional supply dynamics and competitor activity
- Provide market insights to leadership
- Coordinate shipments via truck, rail, or barge
- Ensure compliance with mill specs and delivery schedules
- Resolve quality claims and shipment discrepancies
Requirements:
- 5+ years metals recycling industry sales experience
- Established relationships with Midwest mills and/or foundries preferred
- Strong knowledge of ferrous grades and specifications
- Rail and barge logistics experience
- Existing network of industry contacts / consumers
- Proven negotiation and commercial skills
- Willingness to travel regularly
