Overview:
A privately-held metals recycling company is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the daily operations of a high-volume processing facility. This is a newly available leadership opportunity with significant long-term growth potential, including the opportunity to oversee additional facilities as the organization continues to expand.
Reporting directly to executive leadership, the General Manager will provide strategic and hands-on leadership across all aspects of the operation. This individual will oversee approximately 50 employees through a team of department managers responsible for ferrous operations, non-ferrous operations, transportation, and maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership for daily operations across ferrous and non-ferrous processing, transportation, and maintenance.
- Lead, develop, and mentor department managers while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.
- Oversee inbound purchasing activities, including grading and pricing scrap from both industrial suppliers and peddlers.
- Coordinate production schedules to optimize inbound and outbound material flow.
- Ensure efficient shipping, receiving, logistics, and fleet operations.
- Partner with the maintenance team to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Oversee facility operations, including buildings, grounds, security, and overall housekeeping.
- Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability, and customer service.
- Maintain compliance with all company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Provide operational recommendations and performance updates to executive leadership.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years metals recycling industry leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous grading, purchasing, and processing.
- Proven ability to lead managers and develop high-performing operational teams.
- Experience overseeing transportation, maintenance, and production functions within a heavy industrial environment.
- Hands-on leadership style with excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to balance operational performance and financial objectives.
