Overview:
Established Metal Recycler in the South seeks an experienced Industrial Buyer to source and procure nonferrous scrap materials. This role involves evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing inventory to support efficient production operations.
Responsibilities:
- Source and procure scrap materials, including metals such as steel, aluminum, copper, stainless steel and alloys, required for manufacturing processes.
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and adherence to industry standards and specifications.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement and favorable delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance, to understand procurement needs and support project timelines.
- Monitor inventory levels and manage reorder processes to maintain optimal stock levels and avoid production delays.
- Coordinate logistics and transportation for incoming materials to ensure timely delivery and minimize supply chain disruptions.
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations, address quality issues, and resolve supply chain challenges to maintain uninterrupted production.
- Stay updated on market trends, pricing fluctuations, and regulatory changes affecting the metal industry to inform procurement decisions.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives, vendor consolidation strategies, and supply chain optimization measures to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, contracts, pricing agreements, and supplier communications.
Requirements:
- 5+ years metals recycling industry buyer/procurement experience.
- Knowledgeable in different types, grades, and specifications of metals.
- Experience with customer service, supply chain management, metallurgy, engineering, or a related field.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Familiarity with metal fabrication processes, industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME), and quality assurance requirements.
- Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis, reporting, and procurement workflows.
- Analytical mindset, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail in managing complex procurement projects and contracts.
- Understanding of logistics, transportation, and inventory management principles applicable to metal materials and supplies.
- Certification in procurement, supply chain management, or relevant industry certifications is a plus.
