Overview:
The Operations Manager will oversee all yard operations, production workflows, equipment utilization, safety performance, and personnel management for both sites. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who understands scrap metal recycling, can drive operational excellence, and can work closely with ownership and site supervisors to meet both financial and strategic goals.
Responsibilities:
Multi-Site Leadership
- Provide operational leadership and direction for two facilities, ensuring consistent performance, compliance, and service levels.
- Work closely with yard supervisors to set daily priorities, address production bottlenecks, and monitor output.
- Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) across both locations.
Operational Oversight
- Manage inbound and outbound material flow, including processing, sorting, and shipment scheduling.
- Oversee equipment use, maintenance schedules, and downtime tracking to maximize productivity.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate reporting and documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture and uphold all environmental, regulatory, and company compliance requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions at both sites.
People Management
- Supervise and develop yard teams, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and communication between the two operations.
Process & Performance Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements to enhance throughput and reduce operational costs.
- Track KPIs such as production rates, equipment performance, labor utilization, and material recovery.
Customer & Supplier Interaction
- Support customer service needs by ensuring accurate, timely, and professional handling of materials and transactions.
- Engage with suppliers, haulers, and contractors as needed to optimize operations.
Requirements:
- 5+ years metals recycling industry operations leadership experience
- Demonstrated success supervising teams in a fast-paced, production-driven yard or plant.
- Strong understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous processing equipment, safety standards, and recycling workflows.
- Proven ability to lead change, optimize processes, and improve productivity.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work across two locations and adjust schedules as needed to support operations.
- Computer-proficient with the ability to work in production and inventory systems.
