Overview:
Metals Recycling Company in the South is seeking a motivated and experienced Operations Supervisor to oversee the daily tasks of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap processing. The Operations Supervisor will play a key role in ensuring the efficient operation of the yard and warehouse while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities:
Supervision and Team Management:
- Lead and supervise a team of operators and technicians involved in ferrous and non-ferrous scrap processing.
- Assign tasks, provide guidance, and ensure that team members adhere to established procedures and safety protocols.
- Foster a positive work environment conducive to teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Production Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the scrap processing facility, including material handling, sorting, and processing activities.
- Coordinate with logistics personnel to ensure timely receipt and dispatch of incoming and outgoing scrap materials.
- Monitor production metrics and performance indicators to identify opportunities for efficiency improvement and cost reduction.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce quality control measures to maintain the integrity and quality of processed scrap materials.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and address any non-conformities or areas for improvement.
Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
- Oversee maintenance activities for equipment used in scrap processing, including shredders, balers, shears, and material handling machinery.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff to schedule preventive maintenance and repairs, minimizing downtime and optimizing equipment performance.
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety, ensuring that all employees follow proper safety procedures and use personal protective equipment.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, inventory levels, equipment maintenance, and safety incidents.
- Prepare reports and provide updates to management on key performance metrics, operational issues, and improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the metals recycling industry.
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap processing operations and equipment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, environmental compliance, and quality management systems.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, make sound decisions, and solve problems effectively.
- Heavy Equipment Operation Experience is a must.
