Overview:
West Coast Metals Recycling Company seeks an experienced and hands-on operations leader to oversee the day-to-day activities of the hammermill and downstream departments. This individual will ensure equipment efficiency, team productivity, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Provide effective leadership and supervision for department personnel.
- Develop and maintain work schedules to support all aspects of hammermill and downstream operations.
- Review, plan, and schedule repair and maintenance activities to optimize equipment performance.
- Participate in weekly management meetings to coordinate on projects, upgrades, and maintenance strategies.
- Create and manage a critical parts inventory system, including reordering processes and parts tracking.
- Prepare, review, and monitor daily production reports for accuracy and performance metrics.
- Inspect parts for damage or excessive wear and oversee necessary repairs or replacements.
- Perform repairs and rebuild conveyors and shredding equipment as required.
- Serve as backup Hammermill operator during emergencies.
- Enforce proper use of established safety practices and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with fellow managers and the maintenance team on repairs and planned maintenance activities.
- Conduct material sampling to ensure quality standards and optimal material recovery.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience operating or maintaining hammermills or shredders in a metals recycling environment.
- At least 2 years of managerial or supervisory experience.
- Forklift certification required.
- Proficiency in operating material handling equipment.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of metal recycling shredders, hammermills, and related machinery.
- Knowledge of layout according to blueprints.
- Proficient in reading drawings/schematics.
