Overview:
A leading Metals Recycling Company seeks an experience EHS Professional for their Northeastern Region. The EHS Director will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while driving a proactive, people-first safety culture. The Director will collaborate with site leadership and operations teams to standardize best practices, reduce risk, and achieve performance excellence across all sites.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, implement, and continuously improve the EHS strategy across multiple scrap processing facilities.
- Partner with regional and site leaders to develop and enforce policies, training, and accountability for safety and environmental performance.
- Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state environmental regulations.
- Drive incident prevention and investigation programs, ensuring timely root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Oversee air, water, and waste permitting and reporting; ensure all required documentation and submissions are accurate and timely.
- Provide EHS leadership for capital projects and equipment installations, ensuring environmental and safety considerations are built into project design.
- Mentor and develop local EHS managers and coordinators, fostering a collaborative and consistent safety culture.
- Interface with regulatory agencies, customers, and internal stakeholders during audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Track and analyze EHS metrics to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as the regional point of contact during emergency response events, coordinating communication and corrective action plans.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a multi-site heavy industrial or metals recycling environment.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated success in developing and leading safety culture transformation and performance improvement initiatives.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence across all organizational levels.
- Willingness to travel regionally (up to 60%)
