Overview:
A well-established metals recycling organization is seeking an experienced Regional Operations Manager to provide operational leadership across multiple processing facilities in the Midwest. This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for plant performance, maintenance, safety, capital projects, continuous improvement, and the development of site-level management teams.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in ferrous scrap processing along with proven experience overseeing multiple facilities and leading other managers. This individual should be equally comfortable evaluating plant performance, developing operational strategy, and spending time in the field supporting local teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide operational oversight and leadership across multiple metals processing facilities.
- Lead and develop plant managers, supervisors, and operational teams while driving accountability for performance.
- Partner with commercial leadership to align production capabilities with purchasing, sales, and customer requirements.
- Drive improvements in throughput, productivity, equipment reliability, operating costs, and overall plant efficiency.
- Provide leadership around preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, and long-term asset reliability.
- Champion safety and environmental performance across the region.
- Develop capital expenditure priorities and oversee major equipment and facility improvement projects.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvement, innovation, and profitable growth.
- Establish performance expectations and utilize operational metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Travel regularly throughout the region to support facilities and local leadership.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience within scrap metal recycling, steel, or a related heavy industrial environment.
- Strong background in ferrous scrap processing, with experience involving balers, shredders, torching, or similar processing equipment highly desirable.
- Proven experience overseeing multiple facilities and managing managers/supervisors.
- Strong operational background with practical knowledge of industrial maintenance and equipment reliability.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety and environmental programs within heavy industrial operations.
- Proven ability to improve plant performance, productivity, and operating efficiency.
- Experience developing and managing capital projects and operational investments.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and business management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
Location & Travel
This position will support multiple facilities throughout the Midwest and requires regular regional travel. Candidates should be located within, or willing to relocate to, one of the organization’s key Midwest operating markets.
