Overview:
A well-established, family-owned recycling operation in the south seeks an experienced local Outside Buyer to procure ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials from local industrial and commercial accounts. The Scrap Metal Buyer will play a critical role in sourcing, developing, and maintaining supplier relationships across the region. This individual will be responsible for identifying purchasing opportunities, negotiating competitive pricing, and ensuring consistent material flow to support processing operations. The ideal candidate brings industry knowledge, market awareness, and a proven ability to build long-term partnerships.
Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals from industrial and commercial accounts.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts in line with market conditions and company objectives.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while expanding the vendor network.
- Track commodity markets and provide accurate, timely updates on trends impacting supply and pricing.
- Collaborate with operations, logistics, and sales teams to ensure smooth flow of materials.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier interactions.
- Represent the company with professionalism, integrity, and customer-focused service.
Requirements:
- 3+ years metal recycling industry ferrous/non-ferrous buyer experience
- Strong knowledge of scrap metal material grades and specifications.
- Proven track record of negotiation and supplier development.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, market-driven environment.
- Valid driver’s license; regional travel required.
