Seeking an experienced Senior Controller to lead the full financial and accounting function for an established Metals Recycler. This role provides strategic oversight of all financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, strong internal controls, and reliable reporting. The position plays a key role in long-term planning, financial analysis, and operational decision-making.
The ideal candidate is well-versed in enterprise-level accounting systems, has a strong auditing and inventory management background, and brings experience supporting multi-location or international operations. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and help drive financial discipline and organizational performance.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the daily activities of the finance and accounting team, including reporting, budgeting, payables, receivables, payroll, and audit coordination.
- Mentor and develop staff to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Work closely with operational and administrative departments to support financial oversight, cost control, and performance management.
- Oversee preparation of financial statements, internal reports, regulatory filings, and executive summaries.
- Manage audit processes across banking, insurance, and financial reporting functions.
- Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting, identifying variances and communicating them to leadership.
- Strengthen and maintain internal control systems to ensure compliance and reduce risk.
- Monitor debt obligations, participate in banking discussions, and support capital planning efforts.
- Track industry and market conditions that may impact financial strategy.
- Drive financial planning and analysis initiatives to optimize efficiency and improve margins.
- Evaluate operational performance and recommend improvements or strategic investments.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
- Support executive leadership in evaluating business growth, investment opportunities, or organizational changes.
- Represent the finance function in discussions with lenders, auditors, and other external partners.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in finance, accounting, or business is a plus.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- 8–10+ years of progressive financial management experience, metals recycling industry experience required
- Experience overseeing capital planning, operational finance, and multi-entity financial operations.
- Background with ERP implementations or system optimization is highly valued.
- Familiarity with 5S or quality management systems preferred.
- Strong proficiency with enterprise accounting systems (NetSuite or comparable).
- Deep understanding of auditing principles, internal controls, and inventory accounting.
- Effective leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage complex financial environments.
- High ethical standards, judgment, and attention to detail.
